But it’s also possible that you are unaware of the fact that your vision is subpar. You can get used to it. Well, our yearly eye exam will detect whether you can benefit from new glasses, or if your existing prescription should be updated to reflect changes in your visual requirements. All three refractive conditions; nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism, can be traced back to how your cornea is curved. The cornea is located at the front of your eye. Light enters there and is then sent to the retina at the back of your eye. Normal vision is associated with that light reaching the retina at or very close to the center. But when your cornea is not curved properly, the light instead hits nearer the front or back. Our 07109 eyeglasses change the angle that light takes when it moves from the cornea to the retina, thereby ensuring that it lands closer to the center. And as a result, your vision improves. Over time, there can be a tendency refractive issues to grow worse, due to continued curving of the cornea. Fortunately, with by adjusting the prescription, and accordingly the angle, you can continue to enjoy sharper and clearer vision.
Why not call us today and arrange a time to come in for an eye exam, and take that vital first step toward improved vision?

Eye Care Belleville NJ
If you have diabetes, you are at risk for developing diabetic retinopathy. Diabetic retinopathy is a serious eye disease that develops when a patient has consistently elevated high levels of sugar in their bloodstream. At the Eye Institute of Essex, patients with diabetic retinopathy, or at risk for developing diabetic retinopathy, can receive excellent eye care Belleville NJ.
When you come to our vision practice for eye care Belleville NJ, you will be seen by one of our expert doctors, just one of whom is Dr. Philip N. Eichler. Diabetic retinopathy is a serious eye disease that can be found during a complete eye exam when the back of the eye is examined during eye dilation. The sugar in your blood stream can cause damage to the blood vessels that surrounded and nourish the retina. When the blood vessels are affected by high sugar levels, it is considered to be diabetic retinopathy. Diabetic retinopathy is a collective term used for several different types of this eye disease. Diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of blindness in middle-aged adults. The symptoms of diabetic retinopathy can be practically nonexistent or extreme. When a patient develops macula edema, their vision can become blurred and may fluctuate between clear and blurry. If a patient has proliferative diabetic retinopathy, they may begin to see small specks or large floaters obscuring their vision, which is caused by the blood vessels bleeding. If the patient suffers a large hemorrhage in their eye, their vision can become extremely blurred. If diabetic retinopathy is found, advanced eye tests may need to be run so our eye doctor can come up with a thorough diagnosis. Strict control of blood sugar levels can greatly lower your risk of developing vision problems from diabetic retinopathy. Laser surgery is an effective treatment in early stages of diabetic retinopathy.

Eye surgery office Verona
Our total commitment to the well-being of your eyes includes vision screenings, but also a lot more than that. Our eye surgery office in Verona diagnoses, evaluates, and treats cataracts, one of the most common eye diseases, and one that can result in a gradual loss of vision to the point where your ability to live you life in a normal fashion has been compromised.
Cataracts are often associated with aging, and it is true that over half the cases are in people 65 or older. But it’s a condition that can develop at any age, and regardless of medical history, heredity, ethnicity, and other factors. There are no obvious symptoms in the early stages of cataracts. It is typically detected as part of a routine yearly eye exam, after which a prescription for special glasses or contact lenses will counteract its effects, which are blurring and clouding your vision. Over time, you may need updated prescriptions to address the progression of cataracts. And for most people, there will come a time when corrective lenses are no longer sufficient to provide you with the vision you want and need. That’s when our eye surgery office in Verona will recommend a procedure in which your eye lenses are removed and replaced with prosthetics. Cataracts cause a gradual buildup of protein on the outside of your natural lenses. The protein cannot be removed, and so the lenses have to be. Their replacements are multi-focal, so not only will you have clear vision, but you’ll also have sharp vision at all distances. It’s a simple, effective, and safe process done expertly by our eye surgery office in Verona.
Don’t settle for subpar vision. Regain your optimal eyesight and your independence. Call us to arrange an appointment for a consultation and find out if cataract surgery is the right choice for you.

Verona Eye Surgery
Of course, no one wants to have retina surgery, but when it’s necessary, you can count on us as the specialists here at Eye Institute of Essex. For a retinal tear or full detachment, our Verona eye surgery is safe and effective.
A retinal tear is less serious than a detachment, but it needs to addressed in a timely fashion or else it could become detached. One of the methods we use is called laser photocoagulation, which uses heat to re-seal the torn retina and reposition it to its normal state. Cryotherapy, conversely, employs the opposite method: cold. A probe is put underneath the retina’s surface and freezes the area around the tear. Regardless of which method is appropriate, the goal is the same. Our Verona eye surgery causes the formation of a scar that keeps the retina from detaching. For retina detachments, there are three procedures utilized: retinopexy, scleral buckle, and vitrectomy. Retinopexy is the injection of a gas bubble into the center of your eye. The bubble presses on the retina and then laser photocoagulation is used to seal up the retina. The bubble remains in your eye for about 1 to 3 weeks until the bond is judged to be reliable. Scleral buckle is done by placing a piece of plastic or similar flexible material over the white of your eye and sewing it in place, so that the pressure against the retina will flatten it back against your eye’s wall. Again, heat, or possibly cold is used to assist the seal. Vitrectomy is the removal of the eye’s vitreous gel to treat retinal bleeding.
Fortunately, most retinal detachments can be repaired. It is not uncommon, though, for more than one procedure to be needed in order to successfully repair the detachment. Call us to arrange a consultation to determine if you should have our Verona eye surgery.

When a patient has diabetes, they run the risk of developing diabetic retinopathy which is actually a collective term for several different types of retinopathy. Patients with diabetes risk losing their vision since they have elevated levels of sugar in their bloodstream which can damage the retinal blood vessels. Diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of blindness in working-aged adults. It is important that patients have their eyes examined on a regular basis as recommended by our eye doctor to make sure that diabetic retinopathy is not occurring. Sometimes when a patient has diabetic retinopathy, they are not even aware of symptoms. If a patient has macular edema, the vision can become blurry and may fluctuate between blurred and clear. When abnormal blood vessels form, as is the case in proliferative diabetic retinopathy, they can bleed and cause the appearance of small specs or large floaters to obscure vision. If a large hemorrhage occurs, this can cause vision to become very blurred. Diabetic retinopathy can be easily diagnosed at our office during a regular eye exam, as part of our eye care in 07109. If diabetic retinopathy is diagnosed, our ophthalmologist may want to perform additional tests to determine the extent of the retinopathy. The best way to treat diabetic retinopathy is with prevention. Keeping your blood sugar levels as close to normal as possible cans significantly reduce your risk of vision loss from this disease. Laser surgery can also be helpful in treating macular edema or proliferative retinopathy.

And here at Eye Institute of Essex, our goal is to help you to prevent such problems, and to treat them promptly if they do arise. Our eye care in Belleville is more than just routine eye exams and prescribing corrective lenses. We’re also dedicated to your optical health.
Conjunctivitis is more typically known as “pink eye,” for the redness that is so often associated with it. What causes it? It can be due to either a virus or bacteria, as well as from allergens such as dust or pollen, or irritants. It is a contagious disease, but does not pose any major longterm hazards to the well-being of your eyes. In addition to redness, symptoms you may experience can include itching or burning of the eyes, blurry vision, excessive tearing, unusual sensitivity to light, and discharge that is either yellow, green, or white. If you notice any of those indications, particularly discharge, seek our our eye care in Belleville right away. Keratitis is an infection generally caused by wearing contact lenses Instead of the conjunctiva, it affects your cornea. It may also be either viral or bacterial in nature. Many of the same symptoms that are associated with conjunctivitis are also ones that could indicate keratitis. Regardless of which type of infection you have, what is vital is that you don’t ignore the problem. With a timely diagnosis, evaluation, and treatment protocol, you will be experiencing improvement quickly. In the case of conjunctivitis, the method for addressing it will depend on the root cause: bacterial, viral, allergen, or irritant. Likewise, keratitis treatment will be determined by its cause.
Call us to schedule our eye care in Belleville anytime you are noticing symptoms like the ones referenced earlier. There is no need for you to be uncomfortable any longer than you have to be because of an eye infection, and our eye doctor can take care of the problem for you effectively and safely.
